Let’s first look at what to wear. We have the choice of:
Bare feet
Sandals
Running Shoes
Hiking Boots
and Rain Boots
Now the scenarios for each item.
When life is pleasant and all is working well, we can envision a walk on the beach or a stroll in the park on your best weather day. There is the ease of being. There is joy and peace. Life is making sense. We can move with bare feet because there is nothing in the pathway, we need protection from.
Then there are times when life is still good but maybe we had a glimpse of sadness or memory of pain, however, the good is definitely outweighing the bad. The weather is still very pleasant and life is making sense. You can see clearly and are at peace. On this terrain, you throw on your sandals, just to protect yourself from the pebbles on the road.
Now life has gotten a bit unsmooth. You notice your day isn’t working as well as you’d hoped but you have some control. You aren’t completely lost but you are in search of guidance. Your emotions feel a bit unstable. Some clouds are forming so you need a good pair of running shoes to allow you to jump the hurdles in your path. The hurdles may be self-created or created by others but they are there. We see them so let’s prepare ourselves for the jump.
Then there are days when the terrain is steep. The boulders can be seen and the climb is uphill. You may feel exhausted and out of breath but on these days, we put on our hiking boots and carry on. You pause when necessary to keep going but I recognize to get back home, I have to climb the hills ahead until my terrain gets smooth again. But I am equipped for the climb.
Lastly, on this day the clouds have formed. The rain is falling. The thunder is roaring and lightning is hitting. We see it all. We feel the rain. The darkness has fallen. So, we put on our rain boots and forge ahead. We sit still and let the rain hit us. We listen closely and hear the loudness of the thunder. We even allow our eyes to see the fright in the lightning strikes. Unsure of how long the rain will last but assured that we are prepared to deal with it all as it unfolds. Sometimes acknowledging that I don’t know is actually knowing. And it is perfectly fine to sit here for a while until the answers come.
You see, the biggest part of this is recognizing that we always have access to all five of these, the challenge is knowing which one to wear. When you can properly access your surroundings, make peace with whatever terrain you are currently in, and dress appropriately; you have the key to managing your life successfully. It’s not about the terrain, but about learning how to dress for it.
At the end of the day, It’s Your Choice!!
